Fun with Nature
Nature is all around us, whether we live in the desert, a forest,
along the ocean, or in the city. Bugs, snakes, spiders, trees, birds,
wind, rain, rocks, and even people are part of nature.
Meet Ranger Ken
Ranger Ken worked for California State Parks for 30 years. He spent a decade as a
state park ranger giving campfire programs and leading nature walks in
several state parks. He also conducted tours through historic homes and museums. Now retired from state parks, he has recreated his Ranger Ken role, providing special school "Author
Day" campfire programs for students.
Ken McKowen is the writer and his wife Dahlynn McKowen the illustrator of all their Ranger Ken Discovering books. Ken and Dahlynn are also national award-winning travel book writers with their Best of California's Missions, Mansions and Museums. Illustrator Dahlynn McKowen has been a travel writer, book author, and editor for more than 25 years. Her books include several Chicken Soup for the Soul titles with Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen.
For the past seven years, Dahlynn and Ken have volunteered weekly at Ottomon
Elementary School in Orangevale, California. They've worked with all
grades, K-6, but now focus on helping second, fourth, and sixth graders
improve their reading and writing skills.

Ranger Ken's Children's Activity and Coloring Books
The first two titles in a series of nature activity and coloring books
is now available. Ranger Ken: Discovering Mountain Wildlife
and Ranger Ken: Discovering the Seashore
features
natural history information and accompanying drawings of many different animals ready to be colored. Plus there are
pages where kids are encouraged to create their own nature
drawings. Each animal's listing includes information about the animal's
food, homes, and more. Also included are a nature crossword puzzle,
word-find, animal maze, and more!

School Programs
Ranger Ken offers both educational and fundraising programs to schools. Besides conducting special school campfire programs. Ranger Ken also offers an opportunity for your school and its parent-teacher organization to raise funds by selling fun and educational Ranger Ken "Discovering" publications to students.
